Intervention Programs

Private or group, in-person or online lessons

Lessons are held at our Pima and Swan offices, in addition to the convenience of online lessons. A monthly subscription includes 7-9 biweekly lessons. Added lessons are available for students needing three or more lessons per week. Group lessons have limited availability based on requirements for homogeneous grouping of student skill levels. Several Wilson Language programs are used, based upon your child's assessed need.

Early Skill Intervention for Kindergarten and First Grades

1/2 hour, 7-9 private biweekly lessons per month,
$315.00

Our targeted sessions revolve around the abilities and experiences of each student. We identify and fill the gaps in early literacy skills to build a strong reading, writing and spelling foundation.

Wilson Intensive Intervention for 2nd-12th graders two or more years below level in reading

1 hour, 7-9 private, twice weekly lessons per month,
$525.00 
Additional lessons available for 3x weekly

We take a comprehensive approach in evaluating every aspect of reading, writing and spelling to help students overcome severe skill deficits and/or language processing disabilities, including dyslexia.

Wilson Tier II Intervention for 4th-12th graders with mild skill gaps

40 minute, 7-9 biweekly private lessons per month, 
$350.00

Students with minor knowledge gaps, who may lag one year behind their peers in literacy skills, benefit from direct instruction in the structure of the English language. They enjoy improved reading fluency, comprehension and spelling abilities.

Collaboration with teachers and psychologists as a private intervention provider creates a comprehensive learning plan with focused, attainable goals aligned to the needs of your child.


Professional development in the implementation of structured literacy is available for school sites and districts, as well as contracted individual and small group Tier III phonics intervention services for students.

Director Mary Kolsrud, M.Ed., brings over 25 years of education experience to the Tucson Reading Institute. She is a Level II Wilson Certified Dyslexia Therapist,  an Arizona State certified teacher and K-12 administrator, with K-12 Reading Specialist, Early Childhood and ESL endorsements.

Interventionist Lori Conner, M.Ed., is an award-winning elementary school administrator and  certified teacher with over 27 years of experience. She is a Level 1 Wilson Certified Dyslexia Practitioner, and is a member of the International Dyslexia Association. 

Tari Tenace is our newest colleague, with a wealth of experience serving children with learning challenges as a certified  Exceptional Education teacher and school administrator. She is studying to be a Level 1 Wilson Certified Dyslexia Practitioner,  and is a member of the International Dyslexia Association.
